So this summer while visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Calgary, Alberta we took the boys to their first rodeo.
Sam has since become obsessed with everything cowboy. So this years costume was obvious.
The costume was so simple. I already owned everything except for the vest.
For the vest I went straight to the queen of DIY, Dana over at Made and she of course had this fabulous tutorial for a cowboy vest (she’s just too good isn’t she). I love her sewing tutorials. They are always so straight forward and she always gives so many options for making changes. I used her pattern piece but changed the vest to what I was looking for.
I printed off the pattern piece (just 2 pieces of paper taped together). Cut out one piece on the fold for the back of the vest and 2 pieces for the front.
So simple to sew together.
Bought 1 yard of this cool fringe at Joanne’s Fabrics. Simply sewed it along the bottom.
Added some red binding to the sides to keep it from fraying.
So this little badge was the hardest part for me. I cannot draw a star for the life of me. To attach the star to the circle I used iron on transfer paper (so that I didn’t need to sew it on). If I can’t even draw a star I certainly can’t sew a star! Then I sewed the circle onto the vest.

And this is my little cowboy trying to give me a thumbs up. I guess that means he approves.

Love the vest, Danielle. You did a great job. And your little guy is adorable. ;)
