Kids Dresser Labels & Giveaway

kids-closet-labelsI ask my boys to get a pair of socks, and they think the only way to do it is to pull every single item out of every drawer. Makes perfect sense, I know.

It drives me crazy. Like really, really, really crazy.

Do you have this issue in your house too? I think they may have inherited this trait from their father.

Well I created some little vinyl labels for each of their drawers. So now they can quickly see where everything is before opening a single drawer. That’s the hope at least.

To make these labels you could pick up some vinyl (at any craft store) and cut out your clothing images by hand.

Or cut them out with scrapbook paper or construction paper and Modge Podge them onto the dresser drawers. Similar to what I did here with our Lego storage.

But for mine I decided to use my Silhouette Cameo to cut out my images.

To start I googled clothing images (t-shirt, shorts, pants, underwear, socks, sweater, and pajamas.)

how-to-use-vinyl-without-mat-silhouette-cameoI opened up each image (had to do it separately).

First change the size of the vinyl you are cutting. I had long pieces that were 8″x 24″.

silhouette-cameo-tutorialGo into “Advanced Options” and select ‘none’ for cutting mat. You don’t need to use one when cutting vinyl.

silhouette-cameo-trace-function-tutorialGo to “trace“.

Select “Select Trace Area“. Place your box around the image you want to trace.

Select “Trace Outer Edge“.

Take your cursor and move the original image away. Now delete that original image.

You can now cut your image.

Now just stick vinyl onto dresser. The vinyl will easily peel off so it won’t destroy the finish and can be moved around if you ever rearrange the clothes.

Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4.
I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue.
If you have any recommendations, please share. Cheers!

  2. Genius!! And I love any project I can use my Cameo for! Thanks for sharing at Shine on Fridays; have a great weekend, girl!

  3. Brilliant! I have the same problem with my children pulling everything from their drawers in search for a single item! I’m a new follower from the hump-day-hop :) Check out my blog sometime and follow back if you’d like!
