Silhouette Cameo Laundry Sign

diy-laundry-signI thought this sign was going to be a super simple project.

Paint some scrap wood, cut out the image with my Silhouette and slap it onto the board. Wrong.

I’m very new to my Silhouette so I’m sure there is an easier way to do this (if you know please tell me).

I purchased the L is for Laundry image from the Silhouette store for $0.99.Now here is where I got stuck. I couldn’t figure out how to cut it out. My Silhouette just kept cutting the outside box. So I had to use the trace function and trace the image. This is not ideal because you end up getting extra lines cut. I don’t really know how to explain it other than it’s not ideal. But will work if you don’t mind it not being perfect.

laundry-room-artI had this scrap piece of plywood in my garage along with some yellow craft paint.

diy-laundry-room-artWhile cooking dinner I asked the boys to paint the entire board yellow. They loved it and it gave me at least 2 full minutes of uninterrupted cooking time.

laundry-room-vinyl-decalI always use contact paper instead of the expensive transfer tape when using vinyl.

So once the paint on the board was dry I simply used a credit card to apply the image (this did take me a bit of time, only because I couldn’t figure out how to properly cut the image.)
