Cleaning Your Stove Top, Made Easy

cleaning-stove-topI don’t do cleaning posts.

Mainly because I’m no expert when it comes to cleaning and organizing. I actually totally fail in this area. But I discovered a little cleaning trick.

We hosted a New Year’s Day party at our house and spent three full days cleaning just to make our house presentable.

While cleaning the gunk off our stove I pulled on the little latch at the front of the stove. I’ve always noticed it, but never knew what it did. Well I gave that little latch a little pull and looked what happened…how-to-clean-stove-topIt popped up just like the hood of a car.

I realize I may be the only one who doesn’t already know this trick. But I thought it was pretty cool.

I never have to stick my hand through the four little burner holes to clean it again.

cleaning-stove-ammoniaWhile I was at it I cleaned out the burner pans (is that even what they are called?)

I put them in a bag with about 1/4 cup of ammonia (I found the ammonia at Wal-Mart for a couple of dollars), tied the bag up. And put it outside for about 12 hours (or longer).

Be sure to open the bags up outside, the ammonia smell is enough to knock you out. It’s bad.

I then rinse them off and give them a little scrub.
cleaning-burner-pansNot perfect, but I’ve had these same burner pans for 6 years.

  1. I need to clean my oven soon and I am planning to start from the stove top. I also didn’t know this cleaning trick and I am very excited to try it! I will definitely go get some ammonia and try your idea! I hope that I’ll be able to clean my whole oven with it!

  2. Danielle, that result is better than I’ve expected. This is so easy. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this trick. Atlast, I could get rid of my super dirty, stinky sticky oven.
